New Vs Old
Which SVH series is better?

Senior Year:

Sweet Valley High

  • In SY, readers were introduced to some great new characters (i.e. Conner, Tia, Andy, etc.)
  • Jess and Liz finally changed in some way. (i.e. Liz is dating a future alcoholic and Jess is NOT the most popular girl in school.)
  • Same old story line every book, just like a monthly soap opera, but yet Senior Year has a more believable high school story line.
  • Get to look at hot, real guys on the covers, but yet we have never seen what Andy looks like.
  • The twins seem to have a more realistic teenage life style, such as having jobs!
  • It is just a regular series.
  • Get to see what the twins are feeling because of the diaries, much more of a personal look into their lives and feelings.
  • The books are about a variety of people, with their own personal, private story line that doesn't always involve the Wakefields.
  • The characters are not perfect!
  • New hangouts such as House of Java.
  • Cool, real "handwritings" even though they are just fonts.
  • Many more characters were in the stories instead of the same characters over and over (i.e. Winston, Todd, Sandy Bacon, Bruce Patman, Heather Malone, Roger Barrett, Nicholas Marrow etc.)
  • Jess and Liz never really broke out of their old molds (i.e. Jess was wild and basically your average blond cheerleader. Liz was the bookish twin who had several little affairs while dating good old Todd Wilkins
  • Different plots every book. Lots of unbelievable stories such as murders, psycho girls trying to take over the twin's lives (Margo). Nonetheless, SVH had a lot of variety in the plots.
  • The covers were drawn, so they just seemed more unrealistic really. The twins almost always looked different in some way on the covers. (Of course, then they switched over to the real covers, but you get the idea.)
  • The twins were leading basically the perfect life because no matter what the plot was, it always turned out okay in the end.
  • They had special books such as Super Specials, Thriller Editions, Super Star books, Spring Break, Winter Break, etc.
  • Never had any view of the twins and their friends except for the third person.
  • No matter what the story was about, the twins were always there to help or criticize or somehow be involved with the other characters.
  • The characters were perfect!
  • What ever happened to the Dairy Burger in the new series?
  • Same old ever day fonts with a few italics thrown in for the heck of it.
